Gundagai is a town in the Australian state of New South Wales located along the big Murrumbidgee River river at the foot of Mount Parnassus. Only a stone's throw from the Muniong and ridges Yambla, Gundagai is popular for its bridges, monuments and memorials.

Colorful history the City has been a favorite subject of a number of poets, musicians and writers. Some believe that the reason is that the Five Mile Creek north of Gundagai used to be a popular meeting in which the Teamsters, drovers, shearers, and travelers from Bush.

Gundagai was Australia originally discovered by Hamilton Hume and William Hovell Columbia in 1824, when the Aboriginal Wiradjuri dominated the region. Europeans first arrived more than two years. In the 1830s, a village was created to Gundagau was classified as a city in 1840.

The city was devastated by floods in 1844 killed about 83 people. A local Aboriginal Yarra, was praised for his heroism during the incident. He was one of the rescued stranded residents using their bark canoe. A marble headstone his memory was erected in Gundagai cemetery where he was buried in 1880.

At 15 years of gold fever has spread through the city in the 1850s, before a another "gold rush" has resurfaced in 1894. The most famous historic mines are Robinson and Ms. Rice, southwest of the mine Gundagain and Prince of Wales, west of the mine a few miles from the city.

Some of the most popular stories of historic Gundagai were robbers who killed two policemen. The gang of robbers killed Ben Hall Sergeant Edmund Parry, while brandishing a locker near Jugiong in 1860. Another team led by Captain Moonlite "died Chief Webb-Bowen during a hostage on a farm in 1879. The remains of two policemen buried in Gundagai Cemetery.

? The dog Tuckerbox bronze sculpture is perhaps the icon most closely associated with the city. It is opposite a restaurant and gift shop complex, 8 km north of the city by the Hume Highway. Facing the dog in the Tuckerbox, part folklore of Australia, is the snake Gully Tourist Center.

? The marble masterpiece was completed by Frank Rusconi Mason for 28 years. This is a miniature Baroque Italian palace Standing 1.2 meters tall on a formal square. Each of the 20,948 pieces of marble set across New South Wales was cut, turned and polished by hand. The center also has a replica of the Cathedral of Santa Maria, located in suburban Paris.

? Gundagai Historical Museum displays old coins and dishes from the site of the original town, which was devastated by floods. T-Model Ford, cars, machinery and equipment, clothing, gold scales and a sundial are among the collection.

? Gundagai Palace Of Justice is one of the buildings oldest in the city. That's where Captain Moonlite "was found.

? The Niagara Café is an old Greek restaurant established in 1942. Went visited and praised the former prime minister John Curtin.

? The summit of Mount Parnassus offers spectacular views of the city and river beds. Beautiful lookouts also include The Rotary Lookout, Mount Kimo, and Reno.

Gundagai Bridges

? Prince Alfred Bridge – Believed to be the first Truss bridge in Australia

? Sheahan Bridge – the second longest bridge in Australia after the Sydney Harbor Bridge. It is made of concrete and steel

? The railway bridge was completed in 1869. It has sections of wood and iron goods. It was part of the old Hume Highway, but now is open only to pedestrians.
