The Gibson Flying V was launched in 1958 as part of a series of three Gibson guitars, designed by President Ted McCarty and known as the Modernist Series with modern browser (none of which were made during the initial run of 1958).
Nouveau in the series came after Gibson was accused in the 1950s to offer only the very conservative guitar designs, like a Les Paul single cut, and the wide range of semi-acoustic guitars provided by the company, such as ES-5 and Super 400CES. Gibson felt he needed some very modern guitars for getting a wider audience. This has been the catalyst for the Flying V, Explorer and launch Moderne in 1958.
The three guitars didnÂ't Gibson was looking to create the reaction. People want a different and modern guitar, as theFender Stratocaster, but not so radically different ways of Gibsons.
The guitars were a failure, with 81 Flying Vs total be shipped in 1958. There were scouts, even less, and The Modern is still a design patent, but nothing more, or if most people think. Some collectors are always looking for an original 1958 Modern although is highly unlikely to ever return. In 1959 the series was discontinued.
The Flying V ITSA found time in mid-1960 and was reissued in 1967, due to strong demand, because several popular guitarists such as Dave Davies (The Kinks) and Jimi Hendrix had gathered in a unique way. When people saw him play influential Vs guitarists have become one of the most popular and in demand around the guitars.
This Gibson pushed through V, with minor modifications the body back into production. It was much more successful in the second round first, due to two main factors Hendrix and Davies, as well as musicians blues Albert King and Lonnie Mack, Vs playing, and because of the new wave of young bands in modern rock guitarists want to go to the individual form of the V and Explorer.
The Explorer was later reissued in 1982 along with the modern. A key difference between the original and the reissue was VS Wood 1958-59 models were made of African wood type Korina call, while wood is used for reissues mahogany.
The Flying V also may mention the fact that he has generated hundreds of guitars in V-shaped mainly used for metal music, including several high-quality copies made by Dean Guitars V and V with sharp edges or lighter, as Dean Razorback V and Jackson King V. This means that the Flying V is one of the most influential guitarists in history.
Over Time Vs Gibson was played by James Hetfield and Kirk Metallica's Hammett, Albert King (who picked up an almost immediately after its release, and even engraved on his tombstone), Marc Bolan, Jimi Hendrix (who had a hand V psychedelic painted pattern, see photo left), Michael and Rudolf Schenker, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, Andy Powell, Zakk Wylde and many more.
A rare known is that the Flying V has been named by Seth Lover, the inventor of the humbucker. He walked through the school office, given the design and said "it is the air, and the letter of VA flight. "The name stuck and, after a difficult start, the V became one of the most popular and influential guitars the world has ever seen.
